Barceloneta beach

This is the famous one, the beach at the end of La Rambla that shares its name with the fishermen's quarter. Maximum convenience and maximum crowds — everything has a price.

Best and worst

You get beach bars, sunbed rental, lifeguards and the city's liveliest promenade; also the densest towel-per-square-meter ratio in July and August. On weekday mornings it recovers its dignity.

The promenade

Flat kilometers perfect for running, skating or cycling with rental available on the route itself. At sunset it is one of the best urban walks on the continent, the hotel Vela in the background.

Eating on the sand

Barceloneta's chiringuitos range from reasonable to tourist-priced: the ones toward the port end of the promenade are usually the more honest choice.
